The word 'Google' which is the name of a famous search engine, is a play on the number 'googol'. A googol is equivalent to a 1 followed by 100 zeros and is indeed an extremely large number. This term reflects the infinite and ever-increasing volume of information which is currently available on the Internet. 

The word 'googol' was introduced by Milton Sirotta, who was the nephew of the famous American mathematician Edward Kasner. It was made popular through the launch of the book 'Mathematics and the Imagination' which was written by Kasner and James Newman. 

The company Google was founded in 1995 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin who met as computer science graduates from Stanford University. They originally collaborated together on a search engine called 'BackRub'. Following some experimentation with this project they bought some cheap computer equipment and set up Google's first data center in a dorm room.
